About a dozen people were injured at the Sony Building when snow and ice crashed through a glass atrium on Saturday night, the Associated Press reported.
Snow and ice can lead to collapsing roofs, broken windows, flooding, wet and slippery sidewalks and other conditions for which business or building owners are responsible. If you are injured as a result of unsafe conditions on business property, a New York City premise liability attorney should be contacted to help determine your rights.
Shards of glass rained down on hundreds of celebrities and revelers at the star-studded event to celebrate Purim, a Jewish costume celebration, according to the New York Post. Among the reported guests were "Sex and the City" actor Chris Noth and "Jersey Shore" cast members Nicole Polizzi and Vinny Guadagnino.
The New York Daily News reported that neither were injured.
"Small pieces fell everywhere, in my hair, on my shoes," Dorian Levy told the Post. Levy was dressed as Jackie Moon, the Will Ferrell character from "Semi-Pro."
A fire department spokesperson said glass fell into lobby of the Madison Avenue building and a number of injured guests were transported to area hospitals. Police evacuated several buildings in the area because of the risk of collapsing roofs resulting from the area's recent snowfall.
