Pedestrian accidents in New York that involve a bicyclist injure about 1,000 pedestrians every year. More than half of these accidents happen in New York City. A recently study concluded that pedestrians in Brooklyn most likely to end up in the hospital because of an accident that involved a bicyclist. Pedestrians in Manhattan were the second most likely. Following closely behind was the Bronx, Queens and then Staten Island, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Our New York City pedestrian accident attorneys understand bicyclists and pedestrians are often victimized in accidents with cars. Accidents with each other are less common but are a growing concern throughout the city.
The report was released on behalf of the Stuart C. Gruskin Foundation. Stuart was a pedestrian that was killed by a bicyclist. The study aims to raise awareness in sidewalk travelers. The city of New York continues to encourage residents to walk and bike to their destinations; with it comes a responsibility to commit the resources that make that possible.
Before now, these types of accidents were not required to be reported. Starting October 1st, a law will require that state officials keep track of these types of accidents.
One of the main concerns of pedestrians is crossing Delancey Street. This is known to be one of the busiest crossings in the city. The chaos of traveling motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians sets the scene for a number of accidents.
"You're dealing with so many unpredictable elements and it doesn't take much before you have an accident," said Tina Carr, who is a frequent crosser of Delancey Street.
Nearly 20 percent of pedestrians who are sent to the hospital after an accident with a bicyclist are admitted into the hospital.
Many advocates for safe travel continue to push city officials to install more bike lanes to keep cyclists separate from other travelers, including pedestrians and motor vehicles.
