Pedestrian Accidents in New York City are a real risk every year during Halloween.  As our little ghosts and gremlins suit up for some trick-or-treating fun, parents work to prevent injury.  Adults out celebrating the holiday in other forms or fashions may also run into trouble.

But your child is four times more likely to be injured on Halloween night than during any other night out of the year. The risks for these accidents can be reduced with some simple precautions.

Traffic-related pedestrian accidents are a real threat for residents and visitors of New York all year around, but Halloween brings its own risks.  Before heading out this Halloween, our New York City Pedestrian Accidents Attorneys ask that you review the following safety tips to help prevent a serious accident.

Halloween safety tips from the New York City Police Department:

-Make sure all children are supervised by an adult during their trick-or-treating adventures.

-Plan out your trick-or-treating route before heading out.  Plan a trip that is away from busy streets and is in a safe neighborhood.

-Inspect all candy before allowing children to consume.  Toss out any candy that has been opened or looks like it has been tampered with.

-Make sure costumes are bright, comfortable and flame resistant.

-Considering face makeup instead of a mask.  Masks obstruct your line of vision.  Make sure that makeup is non-toxic.

-Children should look both ways before crossing the street.  Always cross at a crosswalk or at a street corner.

-Costumes should be reflective or children should carry flashlights.

-Make sure each child has emergency identification information on them.  Make sure this information is not visible to strangers to avoid being called out by name.

-Children should never go inside a stranger's house or inside a stranger's car.

If you believe that you or your child has eaten any candy that may have been tampered with, call the NYC Health Department's Poison Control Center at (212) POISONS (764-7667).

Our New York City child injury lawyers would like to wish everyone a safe and Happy Halloween.  Be sure to be safe out there to avoid any real scares on the 31st.
