New York Construction Accidents claim the lives of too many workers every year.  It's a dangerous industry to work in and far too many are injured and killed when the proper safety precautions are not taken.  A recent accident took the life of another Manhattan worker, according to The New York Times.  The man was killed while crews were building a train tunnel nearly 150 feet under the city.

Our New York Construction Accidents Attorneys  understand these tragic stories are all too familiar to the city.  The dangerous machinery, the long hours and the extreme conditions contribute to far too many fatal construction accidents.

The most recent fatal accident happened when a patch of sprayed-on concrete dropped from the ceiling of a future commuter rail tunnel that's located under Park Avenue.  The fallen concrete slab struck and killed a 26-year-old worker who had been on that job for just three weeks.

The worker's father, a project supervisor, had arranged for the young worker to take the job and had been accompanying him the day of the accident.

The concrete slab that fell on the worker is created by spraying the material on surfaces that are difficult to reach.  The material is sprayed with a pressure-powered hose.

The incident is being investigated by the transportation authority and federal workplace-safety regulators.  Construction at the site has been suspended, but there's not much of a delay expected.  The tunnel will connect the Grand Central Terminal to the Long Island Rail Road.  The new tunnel will be used to allow riders an easy way to get to the East Side of Manhattan.

More than 20 lives have been taken in these types of incidents since 1970.  Two workers were killed back in the 90s while working on a water tunnel under New York City.
