New York Crane Accidents are unfortunately not and uncommon occurrence -- particularly in Manhattan. As we recently reported on our New York Injury Lawyer Blog, a crane owner and mechanic were charged with manslaughter after a crane accident killed two workers. The 2008 accident happened when a crane crashed into an apartment building in Manhattan as a result of a cheap welding job.

This same crane accident has recently resulted in a guilty plea to second-degree manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, assault and reckless endangerment charges, according to The New York Times. These charges come with a potential 15-year prison sentence. The owner of New York Crane and Equipment Corporation is facing these charges for failing to repair some crane turntables.
The owner found two qualified companies, but said these repairs would have taken too long. Instead he went with a manufacturer in China after being notified by the company that they were unable to properly weld the machine. The welding used in the repair cracked during the 2008 accident.
Our New York Crane Accidents Attorneys understand the importantance of crane inspections, crane maintenance and crane operator training. Crane accidents not only hurt employees, but they can seriously injure passing pedestrians, motorists and building occupants.
The New York Building Department reports that there are nearly 2,000 crane operators in the state. More than a third of these operators are reportedly uncertified. About 70 people die every year from these types of accidents.
The owner of the crane company recently entered a guilty plea for all of the charges.
